A local radio station is to support a major elephant-themed art trail arriving in Worcester next summer as a media partner.
BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester, whose studios are in the heart of the city on Hylton Road, has partnered with Worcester’s Big Parade to promote the showcase alongside the trail’s other media partner – the Worcester News.
Worcester’s Big Parade will see around 30 life-sized, colourful elephant sculptures displayed through the city’s streets and public spaces for eight weeks from Monday, July 12 to Sunday, September 5.
Alongside the large sculptures will be around 30 smaller elephant calves, decorated by schools and community groups and displayed in Crowngate Shopping Centre and city shop windows.
Jeremy Pollock, managing editor for BBC Hereford & Worcester, said: “Our team all loved the giraffes back in 2018 so we’re absolutely delighted to be on board for next year’s elephant trail.
“We also recognise the event is an important fundraiser for St Richard’s Hospice – who do such important work in the community – after a challenging 2020 for many charities.”
The trail is a Wild in Art event and is being brought to the city by St Richard’s Hospice.
The large, fibreglass sculptures will be auctioned in October 2021 to raise funds for the care provided by St Richard’s Hospice to patients living with serious progressive illness and their loved ones. The smaller elephants will be returned to the school and community groups which created them as a lasting memory of the project.
Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We’re so excited to have the BBC Hereford & Worcester team on board for next summer’s parade.
“We know we can count on them to help our hospice elephant trail get ‘herd’ far and wide!”
Worcester’s Big Parade is supported by partners Worcester City Council, Worcester Business Improvement District (BID), Crowngate, the Worcester News and BBC Hereford and Worcester.
